Birthday Weekend

For Peter's birthday this year we were able to do something awesome that we won't be able to ever do again.  We went with the Greer's and Durham's to the nearby tiny island of Carriacou.  It was quite the adventure; with lots of throwing up, times we were scared for our lives, but tons and tons of fun.

Our adventure started on the morning of Peter's birthday, when we caught the Osprey Ferry for our hour and a half journey to Carriacou.

Peter, me, Michelle, Rob, Lyndzee, Dustin

We were all loaded up on Dramamine and hoping not to get sick.  We were all having a fun time enjoying the view until it started to get dark.  With the gray skies came huge waves and rain.  And guess what the huge waves lead to, people losing their breakfast.

We would try to sit down, but it would make us more sick, so we had to tough it out in the rain with the huge waves hitting us in the face.  Michelle said it best when she said it was like needles hitting you all over.

Those of us who weren't feeling great were all lined up at the edge when it happened, Rob was the first to go, he threw up.  Michelle and I were downwind from it and as soon as we realized what was going on we both tried to quickly get away.  I guess I was wearing really slick flip flops because I just feel flat on my bum.  So Peter had one arm and Lyndzee had one arm trying to hold me from flying around on the deck because the waves were so big and trying to help me so I wouldn't keep falling.  It was so funny, we probably looked like a scene from The Three Stooges, with me on the ground with my arms being pulled in opposite directions.

Here is Peter trying to hold me up after falling

If you don't like reading about gross things then stop here.  I forgot to mention that Peter doesn't get sick, so while we were on the ferry he decided to eat one of the sandwiches I packed us.  Not a good idea, out of no where Peter starts throwing up.  And again lucky me and Michelle were down wind again, but we didn't realize he was throwing up until it was too late, we were both hit.  Once I realized what was happening I went over and helped him and it just kept coming because of the lovely sandwich he had just eaten.  It was so gross, and it was everywhere.  A very windy day on a ferry and projectile vomiting do not mix.

After that it was downhill from there, he looked up at me and it was all over his face caught in his beard.  After it getting in my mouth from being down wind and him looking up at me with it all over his face I lost it.  And I didn't know it at the time, but Michelle was on the other side of the boat doing the same thing.

Our trip ended up taking 50 minutes longer than usual because of the huge waves, and we were all very happy to get off.  On a sad note, Peter lost his favorite expensive pair of sunglasses into the ocean because of his unexpected getting sick.  But on a plus side, we got to see some cool flying fish, and the Durham's didn't get sick at all, they got to hang back laughing at our misery.

Here is Peter's hair after the ferry ride, it was all fluffed up and going one way from the constant wind, it was so funny.

So we finally made it, and we were all feeling a lot better. We found our hotel and got checked in, then decided to get something to eat since we didn't have anything left in our stomach's. We found this cute little restaurant called Sea Wave on the beach and got a really yummy chicken lunch, with tons of traditional Caribbean sides.

Here is the view from where we had lunch

From there we didn't waste any time and headed to Off The Hook Grill to find someone to take us to somewhere neat.

At Off The Hook we found Curtis, who agreed to take us to a little place called Sandy Island.

Notice Peter's sunglasses, I luckily brought an extra pair of sunglasses, but unfortunately for Peter the ones that fit his head weren't my black ones, they were my pink flowery ones, so he got to wear those for the rest of the weekend

Pay attention to these next pictures of the boat we are in, there will be more on that in the day two post.

Sandy island was fun and relaxing. The boys mostly snorkeled while the girls hung out and talked. It was so so pretty, it was pretty much a sandbar in the middle of the ocean that we were hanging out on.

This was a little rock garden thing

Leaving Sandy Island

It was starting to get late once we got back, so we quickly asked someone for somewhere to eat a yummy dinner and were pointed in the right direction, to La Playa.  It was for sure the right choice, everyone's dinner was good.  Mine was interesting, I ordered a grilled ham sandwich, and I ended up getting a ham sandwich with jam on it.  Not the best combination, but not the worst.  We splurged and got dessert since it was his birthday, and they brought out the best chocolate ice cream.

After dinner we all got cleaned up and everyone came to our room for some cake that I made and brought for Peter.  And we sang a very original happy birthday to him where we all sang different versions.

It was a very fun eventful day.
